Dr Jonathan Rothwell Visits ATC Classrooms

Dr. Rothwell author of the Hidden STEM Economy visited our M&S classroom 18 Oct. In his writings he states: "As my new report shows, half of America's highly-skilled technical workers do not possess a doctorate or even a bachelor's degree. Instead their knowledge is acquired through a combination of on-the-job-training, experience, and relatively short periods of post-secondary education. These are unheralded STEM jobs, in the background of every city and town, far removed the public accolades, or support, reserved for scientists and tech workers". He further suggests: "As of 2011, one out of every 10 U.S. jobs are sub-bachelor's STEM jobs. With an average salary of $53,000, they provide decent-paying career paths at a time when less than one-third of young adults are finishing expensive four-year degrees. Examples of these occupations include industrial machinery mechanics, registered nurses, auto-mechanics, carpenters, supervisors of production workers, electricians, machinists, pipefitters, welders, machine programmers, chemical technicians, and sheet metal workers". Thank you Dr. Rothwell for your kind words about our ATC instructional programs. Logo by Rainieri MC
