UW-Stout students get taste of 3D animation careers on L.A. field trip


Pictures of University of Wisconsin students work Working with animation software and their imaginations, students broke into groups and designed their pitches, which included characters, 3D sets and a document called a "pitch bible" that explained the project.

Skill Set of A 2D Artist


Technical Skills Required Excellent working knowledge in 3 of the 4 Adobe Suite products: Illustrator, Flash, Photoshop and After Effects. Graphic design capability, understanding of vector and raster graphics required. Knowledge and professional working experience with 2D graphic design, creating clean readable artwork that can be marketing-ready. Strong knowledge of 2D graphic design/motion graphics and understanding of animation principles. Proficiency in FLASH; full understanding of exporting movie types, action scripting, working with libraries, symbols, integration with Adobe Illustrator OR proficiency with After Affects in motion graphics for exporting to various platforms. Extensive knowledge of 2D animation and/or character rigging techniques. Ability to sketch or draw (digital or traditional) concepts and ideas, storyboarding, required. Base understanding of anatomy, color theory and composition required. Flexibility with various artistic styles required.

DoD Armed with Science: Virtual Gaming = Military Training In a warehouse looking much like a laser tag game room, nine soldiers gear up with flip down goggle mounts, sensors strapped to their arms and legs and carry a computer-enhanced weapon system. Just five years ago, this scenario may have only been seen in a video game. Today, virtual training environments are a reality. The Dismounted Soldier Training System and Engagement Skills Trainer 2000 are two virtual training tools that are quickly becoming the norm for soldiers of the 157th Infantry Brigade, First Army Division East, in training deploying units at Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center, Ind.
